Mamiya and Phase One will introduce the latest fruits of their joint collaboration in the medium format market this year when they introduce a new camera.

The 645DF, which will be sold and branded separately under both maker’s marques, claims to set a new standard for high flash sync speeds – shooting up to 1/1600s.

They also announced a joint development agreement with German lens maker Schneider Kreuznach, which has resulted in a new set of leaf shutter lenses that will be introduced at the same time as the 645DF.

‘Our patent-pending flash sync breakthrough eases working with wide-open apertures and fill-in flash on location,’ says Jan Christiansen of Phase One. ‘We already offer the most flexible exposure times ranging from 1/4000s to one full hour,’ he claims, adding that the 645DF is the only 645 medium format camera that supports both focal plane and leaf shutters, ‘expanding photographers’ innovative possibilities by leveraging the two shutter technologies seamlessly… whether this involves ultra-fast flash sync speeds or extremely flexible exposure times.’
